Comparative Evaluation of the Immersed-Solid Method for Simulating the Flow Field around Hydrofoil

The wall boundary is important in computational-fluid-dynamics simulations. If extremely small leakage, changing leakage or a moving body exists the simulation case, difficulty meshing and solving near-wall flow increases. immersed-solid method, which inserts rigid, solid into entire fluid domain, was choice to solve wall-boundary-solution problems mentioned above, without considering mesh deformation. purpose of this paper verify effectiveness method body, provide theoretical basis for use submerged-solid engineering. In study, NACA0015 hydrofoil used check hydrodynamic characteristics using method. comparative study conducted at incidence angle 8 degrees Reynolds number 5.0 × 105, by traditional no-slip-wall boundary. results show that striking separation with pressure rise drop can be correctly captured an setup tracking. However, accuracy velocity field insufficient. turbulence-kinetic energy much higher around foil body. Generally, qualitatively predict correct characteristics. Its convergence ability better, it save approximately 20% CPU time, even if grid density 4.39 times no-slip wall. Therefore, good engineering-flow cases complex problems.
